I am what is euphamisticly called 'mature' (= over 50); 'matronly' - (=short and chunky); and 'slightly off centre' - a polite way of saying I calls 'em as I sees 'em. Sort of married, 2 offspring the youngest is 26, lived a life of being prepared to take care of my family and self in any situation, and looking for a cyber home.

Not being an American, I do tend to see some cultural differences, so if I inadvertently step on people's cultural toes I will apologize in advance. I love life, have fought hard to remain alive, and never take myself too seriously. So if you think these are ok qualities.. please may I have directions to the Cafe? I *love* fudge!!

I'm in Canada, but a special part where spring has already sprung. I'm on the west caost, and have a house less than two blocks from the ocean (next stop is Japan).

The cultural differences to which I refer are those subtle ones of language. We are a different peoples, there is no doubt about it, and added to that is my very solid British upbringing. A bad combination if there ever was one, LOL, as it was heavily influenced by my Father's feelings that I should have been a son not a daughter.

Hope that helps.

Hello and Welcome to Inner Connections Moon Shadow!

I’m waaay over here on the East Coast. Southern MA, close to the ocean, but not as close as you! I’m so glad you joined us here. I think you’ll like it, lots of great info and people.

Spring! Lucky you. We were supposed to get some "flurries" tomorrow/today. At 11:00 they said more like 2-4”, and just now on the bottom of the tv screen it’s scrolling 7-9”!!! Yikes! I’m glad I planned on staying home tomorrow!

Take care and I hope to see you posting again real soon!

Yahooo glad you came over here to IC. You will notice we have a variety of topics that will entice you to post. We look forward to your knowledge. Do not worry about your languaGe barrier. Knucks are loved here too.

If your asked to clarify something do not take it personal. At IC it is hard to upset anyone. I think it is because this board was built with love and tons of white light.

Moon Shadow Registered User posts: 7 (2/6/01 1:03:07 am) Reply | Edit | Del Thank you -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What lovely welcomes!! I have no idea how you all manage those wonderful graphics, they are beautiful. Think I'll sit with Becky On The Farm and just watch you all work your magic.

Well, I have poked most everywhere there is to see, and that's a LOT! I spent more time that I should have at the earthquake part.. a subject very close to home. And I will be cropping up all over the place.

But Mr. Mailman? I only took one piece of fudge for a treat... but I've left a plate of assorted muffins for everyone. They are special ones... calorie-free .

I'll be back again on Thursday.. tomorrow we play tile-the-kitchen-counter-tops, after which we will see if we are still friends here. LOL Bye.

Sue, I was just going to ask about the colors too!

Barefoot Mailman Chief Techie posts: 491 (2/6/01 3:23:10 am) Reply | Edit | Del Re: Thank you -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So now we have to wait till Thursday for more info? Bummer! I was willing to give up my fudge allowance for tomorrow...

Y'all can talk about mine then, I have no countertops. what color should I use? I have my eye on a lovely granite looking formica, not too dark, but not too light either. the cabinets are all sort of a blondish white wash, with gold handles, they look like little pieces of pipe bent like this ]. Very simply really. I detest knobs.

the backsplash is green drywall, suitable for wet locations, which backsplashes are. No paint, no 'mud' just drywall.

the ceiling and what there is of walls [which isn't much at all] are all stucco and not painted, so it is whitish and aged. A white ceiling fan with plain white globe, same in dining area, and again over the computer desk.

the floor is tiled. Hmmm, I could do a picture, maybe, if I can find a clean one.,,,lemme see.....well, maybe tomorrow. LOL

appliances are all almond, but I can make the dishwasher almond, black, or white. Pretty cool in black, actually. stainless steel sink.

Okay, let's hear some ideas. Pictures are good too!

SAR01 ezOP posts: 1624 (2/6/01 10:46:13 am) Reply | Edit | Del Re: Thank you -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No pictures...you must use your imagination....

My DH calls me "Squeak" because I am so "frugal" translation...CHEAP!

Now....Do you have any clur how much granite counters will run?????

why not paint what you have with BIN...a bonding, primer...than a black enamel, then Faux paint the mottalled look with beige, and a touch pf green, and a feather to make the viens....beautiful....

the walls, well, sounds like you have alot of monocramatic..(whites) I would just pick little places to add color...you can go with white and black....and let RED be the "punch"

or something very elegant is white walls, and sponge on ivory or like cream either a design or leaves or what ever....for a white on white look of elegance, and trim in golds.

this ought to get you started!

Barefoot Mailman Chief Techie posts: 504 (2/6/01 11:03:08 am) Reply | Edit | Del Re: Thank you -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- sonds like some great ideas, sue. except that granite doesn't have veins. You are describing marble. i will not have marble. Unless it is real. Frankly I don't care for it much in the kitchen, except as a portable work area for baking. [yes folks, the mailman bakes, too!]

I like the color ideas for the walls, hints of cream designs, on the stucco which is rough and uneven, would make for some interesting textural eye catchers, except of course that it would mean that I have to dust the spider webs out more often.

SAR01 ezOP posts: 1625 (2/6/01 11:32:27 am) Reply | Edit | Del Re: Thank you -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Granites are very easy!!!! paint the base color, and "speckle several colors...remember to shelac or put many coats of varnish!!!!!

Barefoot Mailman Chief Techie posts: 505 (2/6/01 1:13:05 pm) Reply | Edit | Del Re: Thank you -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think the formica would be easier. I can't do a lot of what you suggest cuz for one thing we have to use it. No other surface available for use while it is going on.

But, I may do that to a table or two. We have one of those 'half' tables that usually have a mirror hanging on the wall above it. It is dark stained, and the mirror is not the same, but close. i could do that marble bit to it quite easily. That would be something fun to do!

I'll try to get some stuff together and take some before and after shots for you.

There are a lot of really nice people here! They make you feel right at home. See you Thursday and curious how your tile turned out.

J, real granite or formica with granite as the design sounds nice. What color and pattern is the floor? That would have a big influence on the other things. I have often thought of putting a butcher block counter top between the stove and fridge. I have sort of a hallway kitchen, appliances and cabnets on two walls and enough room to walk thru or work in.

Barefoot Mailman Chief Techie posts: 509 (2/7/01 3:56:13 am) Reply | Edit | Del Re: Thank you -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If youa re thinking of putting in an island, try using a table there first to see if you like the idea, before going to the expense.

I used tv trays lined in a row to simulate that sort of thing when a friend was considering it. She chose to forgo a large island like you see in most ads, and selected a small butcher block stand, about two feet by two feet. she can move it around fairly easily too and loves it!

Our tile floor is pale grey background with white and tan 'fan-like stripes' on it. the tile is divided on the diagonal, one side is the white stripes and the other is the tan. they are 12" but when the grout is the right color [like new] you don't see the individual tiles, you see the pattern which looks like 16" white / tan alternating tiles. we put them down straight, so the pattern is diagonal in the room. the tile goes from kitchen to dining to livingroom.

origianlly that was the bare floor and the bedrooms were carpeted. I have now claimed on bedroom as part of the main area by leaving the wall out that Andrew took. that floor is terrazo, and I cannot find the same tile anymore.

I am seriously considering removing the tile, and carpeting most of the floor, and doing linoleum in the kitchen. We have rolling chairs in the kitchen/dingingroom though, and they are hell on linoleum.

maybe just a new tile floor....LOL

here I am thinking of finishing the hurricane damage and I have only been working again for what, three days? LOL maybe I should start in the fridge. entirely to much shelf space visible, if you know what I mean! hahahaha
