Is Rena really believable as a kid?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Do you people think Rena is believable as a 19 year old? Obviously she was meant to look older than she actually was but do you think Lourdes pulled it off?

Maybe I'm just questioning this because I saw on her on NYPD Blue as a young woman who eventually got married and had a child.

I realize that some people who are 19 look older, but just the fact that I know that the actress is several years older (26 or 27?) makes the idea of her being 19 hard to believe. I don't think that we saw enough of her to judge whether her actions are that of a 19 year old.

Obviously, if you thought she looked twenty-five, then the producers succeeded in their goal of having her look and act that age in order to fool Carter. The question of whether she is believable as a nineteen year old does not matter because of the original ruse. To Carter she was twenty-f

Actually, if you ask me, the real kid here is none other than Mr. Mike Sugimoto-san....as he childishly removes near every sentiment I care to make. Hi-YA!

-- Andreaux (andscott@email.com), March 09, 2001.

Sugimoto's Law: On the Internet, immature posters and haughty, superior Webmasters who take themselves too seriously, will always find each other somehow, irritating each other to no end, while the rest of people peacefully get on with their lives...

Andreux maybe you should take the hint. and IMO you're the kid on this site.

It's not really surprising to see how badly Andreaux uses the japanese suffixes either....

If one of my posts was removed, I'd think it was probably somehow inappropriate and try to police myself by posting appropriately. If ALL my posts were removed, I'd either think I was at the wrong site for me and move on OR realize I'm completely not understanding the site or playing by the rule so I'd study it for a while before making further comments until I thought I had the reason I was being deleted down. This site is great and I truly will miss not seeing new threads created until Mike decides we can play nice. I hope we can get it together enough for May sweeps. I understand though, Mike, that you're at the end of your rope.

Back to the original thread...Zorbo has the right idea about what's going on here. She might look 25 or so, but the character of Rena is really only 19. That happens all the time in real life. And look at Luka. His character is into his 30's, has to be to already be an attending for at least a couple of years, etc. Goran is not even 30 yet and is, in fact, younger than Noah. So Carter was supposed to think she was in her mid 20's and then get hit between the eyes with the truth. That also happens in real life. :)

I know that I was one of the trouble makers a while ago (remember the flame war I accidentally started last summer?) and I have been trying really hard to change that and I think I am getting better at not starting trouble and if I did say anything to cause this then I want to apologize to you Mike.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), March 10, 2001.

I would think you'd want us to forget that amusing little romp, Smurfette. Thanks for the reminder, though.

-- Cecelia (evilstoat@hotmail.com), March 10, 2001.

You know what I find funny Cecelia? It's that you seem to call me Smurfette for no reason at all, especially when I wasn't even talking to you in the first place, and yet you don't seem to call Andreaux, who is the real trouble maker on this board, anything. Why is that?

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), March 10, 2001.

What the hell. This thread is history, so I'll throw in my two cents (sorry Mike):

Quote: "OR realize I'm completely not understanding the site or playing by the rule so I'd study it for a while before making further comments until I thought I had the reason I was being deleted down."

It's a great thought, Diana, but some people can be here for a very long time and still not get it. Yep, I'm looking straight at you, Cammie.

Geez....is it really all about......me?

-- Andreaux (andscott@email.com), March 12, 2001.

And Cammie...sticks and stones may break my bones.......and then I'm gonna end up in the goddang ER?!!!!!

-- Andreaux (andscott@email.com), March 12, 2001.

why is everyone coming down on Cammie like that?

Alexis, dear, I think I speak for all of us when I ask you to please keep sex out of the conversation. This is HOSPITAL, for goodness' sake!

-- Andreaux (andscott@email.com), March 13, 2001.

No wonder Mike is PO'd!!!!! I tho't the question was about Rena and her age!!!!! BTW....I think she is believeable as a 19yo.

-- dmy (echoes98@hotmail.com), March 13, 2001.

andy, my dear, is sex all that you think about? does EVERYTHING have to be about SEX???

-- ALexis Springer (lexicat1@webtv.net), March 13, 2001.

Because We can't post messages here till Mike Sugimoto decides that people will start respecting his rules, I suggest you go to a different fan forumn.

Here is the Address; http://er.fanforum.com/

Look Under site updates and click on ER Message Board in Green Letters.

You can also post here at: http://www.voy.com/11142 The only thing is that the posts are not visable until Lori (the board moderator) approves them because she doesn't and won't allow any flaming posts on her board. She updates the posts about 2 or sometimes 3 times a day.

Y'all can stop by the new ER Daily message boards too. They don't go public until Monday, but you're welcome to post there.

Y'all can stop by the new ER Daily message boards too. Hm, an address would help: www.digiweb.com/~ellenbe/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi

Does anyone think that the song that was playing in the background when Carter picked up Abby to go to his grandparents event has some meening. I think it might considering they were, "I'm fallin even more in love with you" Just a thought to ponder?

-- Natalie (junior2@telusplanet.net), March 15, 2001.

Back to the original question, I found her believable. Nineteen is different for everyone; some folks still seem like kids, while some seem like completely mature, responsible adults. And some fall in between. Rena certainly seemed compatible w/ Carter emotionally and intellectually (at least what we saw of her). Most people probably thought she was older (as we were supposed to), esp. those who knew the actress' real age. But yeah, if someone I thought looked 25 told me they were 19, I'd certainly take them at their word. It's really only a few years difference.

-- Maureen (shepcaff@ix.netcom.com), March 15, 2001.

I suppose I'm not the best on judging ages when I was 17, I worked with a girl I thought was my age or a year younger. Turns out she was 23!

It's interesting to note that when her NYPD Blue character Gina had gotten married to James and was very pregnant (back in '97) Rena would have been only 16!

-- Dan (d_garrett001@hotmail.com), March 16, 2001.

I can believe it because it happened to me once. I was about 25 years of age and was attracted to a guy at work who I thought was the same age. After we went out a couple times I found out he was only 17!! Maybe I was stupid, maybe not. I did promptly break it off, though! I can see how Carter could do that too! Especially when she told him she was an intern! I would have assumed she was older too!

-- (rkonger@hotmail.com), March 16, 2001.

Well, is there any truth to the rumor that Mike is actually dating Rena?

-- Andreaux (andscott@email.com), March 16, 2001.

Since Mike is a real person and Rena is a fictional character on TV, that would be impossible.

-- Diana (dilynne16@juno.com), March 16, 2001.

Rena does not look like she is only nineteen years old. I don't know how old she really is but she looks older. Someone said we did not see enough of her to see how she acts but I think a nineteen year old would act like an adult.
