Can I inter-change older lenses with a new EOS 3000 model

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have just purchsed a EOS 3000 and my father has a Vivitar lense (manual focus) which he has used on his older style Canon camera.. can I interchange it with my newer style camera?

thank you

In a word, no.

FD mount (manual focus) lenses will not fit on EOS (autofocus) bodies. Adaptors are available, but they are low quality and very inconvenient to use. If you wish to use manual focus lenses they are FAR better used on a manual focus body.

Please Bob, tell me more.

I see several difference brands of EOS/FD converters for sale at bhphoto.com

Is there a difference in quality among the different brands? How much does the picture degrade?

Please explain what the big inconveniences are.
