is there something wrong with my monitor? this looks compressed ><, and the tonal range looks like day-for-night. or is it that even when you take pictures in broad daylight, they still look like they're inside a bar... t

This looks like perhaps afternoon sun, to me. I see this scene everyday here (I work on a college campus with 45,000 students) except she doesn't have the requisite cellphone on her ear.Nice.

Thanks for the comments so far.This cafe is within easy walking distance of two universities, so this is a fairly representative scene.
Tom, I'm not really clear on what you mean, though I'm genuinely interested in figuring it out. Maybe I have been spending too much time shooting in the dark. . .

Maybe Mike carries the bar with him, wherever he goes...It looks like a tinted window, weird effect. Seems to work though...
