is there something wrong with my monitor? this looks compressed ><, and the tonal range looks like day-for-night. or is it that even when you take pictures in broad daylight, they still look like they're inside a bar... t

This looks like perhaps afternoon sun, to me. I see this scene everyday here (I work on a college campus with 45,000 students) except she doesn't have the requisite cellphone on her ear.

This cafe is within easy walking distance of two universities, so this is a fairly representative scene.

Tom, I'm not really clear on what you mean, though I'm genuinely interested in figuring it out. Maybe I have been spending too much time shooting in the dark. . .

It looks like a tinted window, weird effect. Seems to work though...
