EF 20mm f/2.8 with Cokin P mount, do you get vignetting?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi, can anyone advise if vignetting will be a problem using the 20mm prime with the Cokin P mount filter system. My local stores do not hold this lens in stock and therefore I can not experiment. Thanks Jason.

I have the 20mm nad had the Cokin system. My sense was that it would vignette, but have not practicle experience. I stepped up to a Lee system to solve the problem right away.

When mounted the full Cokin mount can be seen in the view finder on my EOS5 which is not a 100% viewfinder.

It does vignette my 20-35L with Cokin when it's set 24mm or wider.

You need to cut off the front slot of the filter holder (easy to do with a hacksaw or Dremel tool). Once you do this, it works without vignetting on a 20mm lens. In fact, I use mine on my 17-35 without problems.

The Cokin P-series polarizing filters are another problem. The filter itself is only about 72mm in diameter. I think it works okay on the 20mm, but there is a bit of vignetting on the 17-35 zoom at its widest setting (although using a polarizer on such wide lenses rarely looks good anyway).
