What's the best way to capture wide screen video?

What resolution shall I use if I want to create VCD or SVCD?

I would venture to guess that what you capture is what you get.

I can only see that capturing "wide screen" will limit the useful vertical information that will go into your VCD. The video quality of VCD is marginal at best for reproducing movies (unless your stubborn like me). If given the choice, I would recommend SVCD.

When I purchase a DVD to watch on the 32 inch TV, that contains both Letter Box and Standard versions, I hardly ever user the Letter Box version. Of course when I finally purchase "Braveheart" that may change.
