The club's best defender

A piece in the Journal is claiming Bobby has said he doesn't want to rush back our best defender, in reference to Dabs.

*gulp*

It has to be Aaron Hughes, if he was English he would be first choice rightback. Anyone agree?

To be honest i didn't rate Dabs when he joined us, but I'd much rather have him along side Goma(if he stays) than anyone else at the club.

Agree with that Mick, I know Dabs has dropped some howlers in the

past(but which of them hasn't?) but I would put him in ahead of

Hughes every time. Hughes IMO simply isn't commanding enough as a CB

and may indeed make a better fullback.

We certainly miss his goal contribution...

All guts and determination but lacks composure and thinking at the right moments and all too similar to Barton.

Sometimes we need the guts and determination and sometimes we need the composure, if he can't provide both he is not good enough. Tony Adams can thats what we should be striving for.

It's arguable. Given the paucity of our defensive capabilities this season, the fact we even have think twice about it, in itself, suggests that we don't think he is that good.

Personally, I wouldn't like to separate Dabz and Hughes - who has been an absolute life-saver for us this season, even if he isn't world-class - with Goma slightly behind them.

Having said that, it is doubtful that any of them are good enough defenders if we really expect to compete for the PL Championship.

Interestingly enough, Dabizas has only ever scored 1 goal after December. Fair weather player ;-)

From the 16th of September, Arsenal have only been able to field David Seaman and Tony Adams in the same starting eleven on 11 different occassions.

On those 11 different occassions, Arsenal kept a clean sheet. Coincidence?

That's precisely my point about Dabs. If he's our best, we're really in trouble. Overall I don't think he's any better than Hughes or Goma. Other than he's got more experience than Hughes, and more spirit than Goma.

The Ronnie reckon we're stepping up our interest in Newcastle have stepped up their interest in Milton Reyes, an international defender with Honduras.

Apparently, Mick Wadsworth has flown to Miami to watch Reyes in tonight's friendly with Peru when, coincidentally, Nobby Solano makes his international comeback.

Reyes (26) plays for Motagun and claimed that United were ready to pay £1.5 million for his services when they first checked him out.

Looks like we can look forward to signing more South American nonentities. Let's just hope they check out his passport.

i like dabs, he has bags of character, gets goals and is loyal (i think)

didn't he score 2 against chelsea on the last game of the season once?

Club`s best defender, easy ,Jonno by a mile ,are you still out there?

Who on earth are MONTAGUN? the Ronnie gill aren't into central american football unlike NTLSPORTS.com>p>Mick Wadsworth and Charlie Woods will be at the Honduras / Peru match in Miami tonight to run the rule over Milton Reyes, the 27 year old Honduran defender and Juan Victor Santé his 26 year old team mate at Motagua . Santé is one of the top scorers in the Honduran league this season, and like Reyes is looking for a big move to Europe. Chief scout Charlie Woods has already watched them in a world cup qualifier against Mexico last year. Nobby Solano is likely to captain the Peruvian side tonight and it is believed that the Peruvian left winger 26 year old Roberto Palacios who plays in Mexico for Club Univerisdad autonomá de Guadalajara or Tacos as they are generally known (honestly) . The left winger has only recently arrived on the International scene having played in less than 10 Internationals in total during the last two seasons and may have a problem acquiring a greek gran work permit. Another Peruvian on the "have a good look at list " is believed to be central defender Jaun Reynozo, who plays in Mexico City for Deportivo Cruz Azul . The highly rated 30 year old sweeper with around 40 caps to his name will soon be out of contract and like many South Americans would love the chance to play in Europe. Unfortunately none of the players on the "HAGLA" list have Greek grandparents and would need a work permit to play in England.

Barton, Marcelino, Dabizas ..... defenders you beg to boot the ball into the crowd, quickly, QUICKLY, before they try to do something (they believe) is constructive. But two of them try hard, so it's okay.

I think actually getting a decent number of fit defenders has to be our priority. We can worry about their quality in due course..
