Newcastle's assistant boss Mick Wadsworth will watch former target, Honduran defender Milton Reyes, in action tonight against Peru in Miami. Reyes is expected to line up at full-back for his country against Nol Solano's Peru, and Wadsworth has jetted out to America to see the game and take a fresh look at the player.

Newcastle were first linked with 26-year-old Reyes last October after scout Charlie Woods watched him in a World Cup qualifier.

Indeed, Reyes has already claimed that his Argentinean agent, the controversial and unregistered Marcelo Houseman, had agreed a £1.5million deal with the Magpies. But nothing came of that interest until now, with Wadsworth's trip a significant statement of intent from United.

Reyes, who plays his club football in his homeland for newly deposed Honduran champions Motagua, can also play at centre-back - a key position for Newcastle considering that the likes of Alain Goma and Marcelino want to quit the club this summer.

Wadsworth will also use today's trip to run the rule over another player to have caught United's eye in the past - Peruvian midfielder Roberto Palacios.

Hey, if Mick Wadsworth thinks he's a potential star then that's good enough for me!
