Latest bizarre rumour from IC Newcastle

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

They get more and more like TeamTalk every day!

They are reporting that a North East car dealer has been asked by NUFC to provide and register a car for Ronaldo! They actually give him his full name.

Come on Swift, can you get your taxi Driver to give this story some credibility?

OK, who fed this one to them - Rik???

-- Anonymous, March 05, 2001

New or Used? Has it got 'go faster stripes' I'm taking this very seriously.

IC Newcastle are making themselves open to the type of fabricated crap seen on other sites.

As a former serious (?) journalistic site they should be researching these supposed links extensively before going to print. So is there a grain of truth in this?! I am very wary of all these stories linking former Robson players like Guardiola, Enrique, Ronaldo and even Van Nistelroy, easy stories to make up, yet they might be creditable but probably not.

Well they do call it "Rumours". And they do ask for people to write in. I think they might be attempting to be humourous, but it comes off very unprofessional for a supposedly serious journalistic site. The other speculation is no different from what the Ronnie and Journal have always done. Maybe we're just a bit oversensitive because it seems like insult to injury after replacing 2 perfectly good (and working!!) websites, with 1 site fraught with problems.

I did have a giggle when I noticed they made the league table even more prominent after Niall and Biffa took them to task about it being wrong this morning. Didn't look to see if they corrected it yet, though.

I know nothing....

My Dentist reckons he has some Brazilian gadgy coming in next week to have a gap in his front teeth closed up.
Could be just a coincidence mind.

Clarky He's going straight from the dentist to a bloke on Byker Bank. Something about a Ford Capri. A milkman told me.

-- Anonymous, March 05, 2001

The links on the IC site still don't work - is it just me? Presumably some of you can actually link to the stories from the Newcastle headlines page? I'm getting thoroughly pissed off with the whole site.

-- Anonymous, March 05, 2001

That's it then, Clarky has scotched the rumour completely.......there is no way a dentist would be able to fill that gap.........Greensit Barrets or Stanley Millers yes, but not a dentist! 80)

Dan

I've copied the link that I use, and get in through every time, below, so try deleting the one you've got and use this one.....if it works bookmark it.......it works for me.

icNEWCASTLE site

That one is linked directly to the Toon site bypassing all the rest of the 'outside' stuff. If it don't work, it's probably your PC.

Cheers ITK 80)

Whoever started off that rumour about Ronaldo has managed to get the story so big that we may hear official comment before long!!

That Spanish.Italian one with the funny name!:

There is someone who is ready to invent anything to advertise his product. English rumours say that an English car dealer revealed a transfer secret. He said that Newcastle United contacted him to purchase a car for next summer, a car registered under the name Luis Nazario de Lima, aka Ronaldo. This should mean that the player will sign for the club, coached by Bobby Robson, former coach of Ronaldo with Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven.

Midas Soccer:

Rumours abound that Newcastle United are to sign Brazilian superstar Ronaldo Luiz Nazario de Lima, Ronaldo to you and me, because a car dealer in the North-East has said that he has been been contacted by Newcastle United, who put in an order for an XK8 for the summer, with the car to be registered in the name of Ronaldo.

The fact that Bobby Robson managed Ronaldo at PSV and Barcelona and that the two think highly of each other would seem to add some credence to the story, but at the end of the day Ronaldo is still recovering from a serious knee ligament injury.

Indeed many think that the great Brazilian may never play again and even if he did would he want to swop the sophistication of Milan for the delights of Newcastle!

It's true I tell you. I saw him this morning driving a white van on the Western Bypass. We were stuck in traffic and he leaned over, wound down the window and shouted "Buenos dias Screach. Can tell you me where is The Rivorside. I look for Sénor Bobby". Did my duty and pointed him towards the Angel. Mind you, it seemed to make him think about Rio - maybe he's thinking of a move to Leeds??

Remember when Socrates was supposed to be coming to Newcastle University (no, not to study Philosophy) and was going to play for us while he was here?
I wonder if they had these kind of rumours in the 50's, or even earlier, or if it's just a phenomenon of the last 25 years or so?

Teamtalk are running a story stating that the club have 'no comment to make' on the stories regarding Ronaldo. TT speculate we may ve trying to revive the loan deal that Robson admitted to when Ronaldo was last coming back to fitness.

What good would this do for us? While he gets back to full fitness he is no use to us. When/if he starts firing on all cylinders either Inter willl want him straight back or he'll be blocking the chances of youth players when it would be obvious that Ronaldo will never realistically sign for us.

Two words DeB: Season Tickets.

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2001

Confucious he say, "Screacher's nee fool!"

It would really depend on the terms of any deal DB, and also the projected return to full fitness of our prodigy - YKD - and being Machiavellian, I suppose whether he is even still with us at the start of the season.

If Bobby could get Ronaldo on say a 6 month loan period - not unusual for the Italians - which enabled us to establish ourselves firmly into a top 6 position before he had to return, and playing in front of full houses, it might make very good business sense.

Can't see it happening mind!

If Ronaldo's advisers take one look at our injury history they'll be laughing at Robson for even suggesting this crap, if it's true.

Also it will test how much influence Nike have in Ronaldo's dealings :0)

Lets suppose he came on loan at the end of March. Although not fit, the fsct that he was at newcastle would attract other players who are considering moving clubs to consider Newcastle. By May he could be fit enough to play a couple of games and as is pointed out, what would thsat do for season ticket sales in the close season if you thought that Ronaldo COULD be joining, woul you renew your season ticket?

I've also heard that NUFC have booked rooms in a plush Northumbrian hotel for April and May..... I reckon he's on his way.

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2001

A top Northumbrian Hotel, eh? Now where might that be? I doubt if it would be doon the Quayside - too public. What about Gossie Park - been done before. Nah - more likely keep it low-key.

I reckon it's Rik's mate's B&B down by the fishquay. Healthy air, quiet relaxing atmosphere watching the boat come in (or whatever else is on telly) and a brilliant staple diet of fish and chips. What more could Ronaldo want? I reckon it's a goer. I will be renewing my ST on that basis alone. Sod European football. A new Nike advert shot on the fishquay will be a major media scoop.

...aye, and I'll provide the jumpers fer the goal-posts!

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2001

Did they have these rumours 25 years ago? Well things were much more tightly controlled - no player's agents for a start. I do remember there were rumours but they were about fewer players - because fewer moved - and there was no real possibility of "talking" a player away from a club like the Liverpool manager seems to. Even though freedom of contract started a while ago it has taken a long time to have this effect of rapid movement partly because the financial structure to take advantage of it took a while to develop.

-- Anonymous, March 08, 2001

The hotel staff are getting all hot and bothered at the prospect of Ronaldo coming to stay. Actually the male members of staff are hoping his girlfriend is coming to stay. If you are wondering which hotel it is, all I can say is it's not the Gosforth Park hotel, try 15 miles up the road.
