New use for old NUFC calendar

Just working on my taxes, more complicated this year because I've got to file part-year resident for 2 different states. Maryland form about as straightforward as these convoluted things can be. Massachusetts form designed for MIT grads by making you figure out some stupid formula which starts with "how many DAYS were you resident". FFS. Sit around grumbling and grousing, really not wanting to count days, trying to remember if last year was a leap year. Remember my 2000 NUFC calendar still sitting in my closet. Ahhhh....grab the calendar, view lovely pics of our lads and add up the days. So simple, really, when it's made a bit more interesting!

When I was in the US, there was a period when my office was officially in New Jersey. However, as Engineering Director for the Company I spent most of my time working away from the office - in New York State, Puerto Rico and the UK, in addition to spending a good many days in the Corporate headquarters in NYC.

Naturally, they all wanted their piece of the pie, determined by how many days you worked in each location. So, as well as having to submit UK & US Federal tax returns, I also had to submit NY & NJ State Tax Returns, plus a NYC Return - fortunately PR was handled via the NYS Return.

As I'm sure you can imagine, it was a bloody nightmare.

Clarky, that's like driving to work on the M25 every day in UK.

Cannot understand how people do it day in, day out. I do Anthing (like moving house) to avoid that.

No' for me, pal.

Well actually Val, I also had a 2 hour commute into NYC and back to 'enjoy' as well for a period. However, I only did that for 2 years - some poor souls do it all their working lives. Never, ever again.

Oh Ciara - you have started your taxes ALREADY! How virtuous. I'm still deep in denial that they have to be done.

Already? I've been procrastinating since I got back from Toon! I knew I was due a big refund since I was out of work for a large chunk of last year. Money I'd have by now if I wasn't so incredibly phobic of anything involving math. But it's done now, not nearly as painful as I had myself worked up to believe, so I can sit back and wait for the checks to start arriving.

BTW Clarky, I feel yer pain about the crazy taxes. The first half of my theatre techie career was spent living in Brooklyn and working in NJ and NYC, the other half I spent living in NJ and working exclusively in NYC. And it was all 1099, so not only the joy of multiple state/cross-boundary dwelling filing, but the added joy of doing it quarterly plus the big yearly wrap-up on April 15! The $150/yr I paid an theatrical accountant was worth every morsel of food that fee kept out of my mouth!! :-)
