Indian Cave State Park, Nebraska, might be an interesting place for some training

Mary and I are taking a short vacation here in Nebraska City at the Arbor Day Foundation. We spent the afternoon hiking around Indian Cave State Park. It looks like it'd be a great place for a mini-training weekend. There are lots of trails for running, big hills, and the USGS map is decent. The park is about two hours drive from KC (and due north of Holton on US75)

It's always worth noting that Nebraska is one of the places guaranteed to get a big turnout if anyone ever cared to put on an A- meet there, since, as far as I know, it would be the first one, and there's a pretty good contingent of people who are always interested in picking up a new state.

Back in my SUA days, there was once a thought of doing an backpacking XC ski weekend at Indian Caves. Maybe a ski-O next winter, too. A training camp would be nice there.

I've been up in Indian Caves a couple of times. Once I took a horseback ride there. It was quite fun. And later, I went up to one of the caves. As I recall it is a fun place and being near the river, the hills are quite steep. However, I haven't been there in at least a couple of years, even though I live maybe only an hour away!
