I would like to know, if one is using a spot welder that can only transmit even current. In the case of spot welding a 1.6mm ally plate to a 4mm ally plate, is it necessary to remove the oxidised layer to obtain fusion? When we attempt to remove the oxidised layer, the plates will not bond, however when the oxidised layer is not removed the plates will bond. Settings are 8.2 current and 2.2sec delay?

i am assuming you are resistance spot welding. it sound like you welder is too small, not enough current and the heat ballance is wrong. if you should require further information please e-mail me.

we are the ones that worked with GM on their alum. welding. If you clean the alum. too well, you remove the resistance between the sheets and do not generate any heat. If you give me a fax number, I will send you a weld chart for commercial grade welding of alum.
