Sedimentary rocks

Can animals remains be embedded into sedimentary rocks from a long time ago and if so, how far beneath the surface would one have to dig in order to find these remains. (ex. Woolly mammoth)

yes animal remains can be left in sedimentary rocks(chapter 7 notes- under importaint sediment characteristics and 3/5 lecture) how far you would have to dig depends on how long ago you want to go and if is it a level of deposited sediments in that area is high or low.
