Flogging Acuna!!!!!!! WHY Oh, FIIING WHY????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

He's got a fecking achilles problem. He is not FIT, what's the point in playing him? Lee and Bassedas are available. Robson is pissing me off, you'd think after Cort, Shearer and Dyer we would have some know how about when to play players and when to write them off for the required amount of time to get 100% fit.

Bad luck my arse, we bring all this injury shite on ourselves. What odds Acuna starting tomorrow's match then hobbling off after 10 or 15 minutes with a flare up which rules him out for a few months? It's almost as if Robson thinks, ah Speed will be back next week so we don't need Acuna, play him and if he breaks down, he's given his all for the team and that's great but he's fucked for the remainder of the season.

Robson, "But because of Gary Speed and Kieron Dyer's injuries, I'll have to play him again. That's the way things are at the moment - we are battling against the odds."

".....we bring all this injury shite on ourselves".

You are at least partly right in that assertion DB. We just never seem to learn, and someone playing on with an Achilles tendon injury is highly likely to damage it further, with potentially serious consequences.
I also think your reasoning about Speed being fit for the next game, if Acuna's problem does deteriorate, does figure in the perverse logic.

Solano, Lee and Bassedas are apparently fit to play (so far, anyway!), in addition to Glass, Gallagher, McGlen and Gavilan.
At this stage in the season, if Bassedas isn't considered strong enough to support Rob Lee in central m/f - the position for which he was bought at very considerable expense - then we should be considering getting shot of him on the basis he simply isn't good enough.

Highly intent on flogging this thread so lets get it on the answers page before it really should be.

Exactly Clarky.

Playing Solano, Lee, Bassedas and Glass should not constitute a crisis!! Yet we decide to play Acuna and make it a crisis. If Speed's comeback is delayed then we've got no Acuna either!

Solano is regarded as a first teamer and Bassedas, having been signed by Robson and for a few quid at that must be expected to be a certain first teamer. That means patching up with Lee who should be a fringe first teamer and Glass who is the same.

I thought you meant we were going to sell him!

Problem with that DeB is it takes ages for the answers page to update, so I didn't even know you'd started this thread when I said the same thing on the Cord/Dyer thread before checking out the New Topics thread. ;-)

Pick any 4 from 8 or more = big deal.

-- Anonymous, March 02, 2001

Bassedas will play on the left. Out of position. Because Glass is just so darn good at warming the bench kicking his left heel on the ground for 85min or so.

Selling him would mean putting a value on him. This club doesn't value the players which is all too obvious! They're just dispensable items whom the management think can all do the same thing then get upset when certain players seem capable of more than others.

calm down guys, it'll get sorted in time. Acuna is a canny little player finding his feet.

-- Anonymous, March 02, 2001

Well if we keep flogging him, Swift, he's going to be finding his feet propped up on the coffee table after he's had an operation that puts him out of action for a few months. :-(

He does have the makings of a very good player. That's why I'm a bit upset that he's being played when we really aren't that desperately short. yet.

He'll be finding his feet on the treatment table for no sensible reason. He hasn't trained all week so there is no way he should be considered. If he hasn't trained he must be injured so why rest him, when he'll be losing fitness and increasing the likelyhood of aggravating his inury.

The only plus point to come out of this is Acuna's willingness to play when he's obviously not ready. He must think but Lee and Bassedas aren't injured so why am I being considered for the starting line up.

Actually, I think this is all just a ruse to confuse you TeamPickers. OK, well, maybe not you, but Everton. If, as I suggested the other day, YBR drops Shearer back into m/f, playing Ameobi and any one of Cor Blimey, Gallacher or Cort (ahem!), Everton will be so gob smacked, we'll be three up inside the first half. Mind you, we'd still probably lose 4-3.

Nevertheless, if Acuna does play, then I will join you all in your condemnation. And if I were Stephen Glass, I'd slap in a transfer request immediatley and not withdraw it in future. Nurse, DeBuilder needs some of your "special attention". Treat him gently.

Screacher, many thanks for the concern but in approximmately 30 minutes from now I'll be on the way to the pub for a bottle of the Brown stuff to quell my growing dissatisfaction of the whole management of the club I love.

Boy, my mates going to love the conversation tonight isn't he? I'm working tomorrow and Robson's playing selection games to piss me off.
