Hair/makeup resources for beginners?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : People Photography : One Thread

I'm interested in broadening my portfolio -- I want to shoot some fashion images (not "glamour" or "erotica") but I've never done it before. I thought I'd start out doing all this on a low budget -- I am currently trying to find someone interested in doing hair/makeup stuff who wants to work on portfolio pieces with me. It would also be helpful for me to have an info source about makeup -- I don't know lipstick from eyeliner -- and I would like basic "how to do hair and makeup" texts/books for photography --- just so I know what I'm dealing with...these texts would be good for me for "background" info and also for any potential "stylist." I'd also like the knowledge of how to deal with little problems as they come up in photo shoots (like what powder for shiny skin, how best to hide a pimple or control flyaway hairs, etc.).

Any suggestions? Reccomendations?

Contact a local cosmetology school, and offer to provide prints for a student's portfolio in exchange for her/his services on a photo shoot.
