GAS PRICE RISE TRIGGERS ANGER AGAINST MOSCOW

At the February 28 cabinet session, a resolution was passed raising by more than 25 percent the wholesale price on gas. This unpopular measure, apparently motivated by pressure from the Russian federal administration, caused sharp criticism on the part of Governor Chernogorov, who complained that the regional 2001 budget did not envisage sharp gas price increases.
