Tactics against Everton

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Do what they did to us, not pretty but hold out for the first 20-30 minutes if we can, get the ball wide to Solano and Glass and get it crossed in for Shearer and Ameobi to attack.

Otherwise Lee sits in front of the back four and lets Bassedas pick the runs of the front four.

Canny tactics them. God help us in the first 20 - 30 mins.
Y'know, Everton are a hopeless team and I'm crapping.

The worst of it is, we haven't even got a good enough team to get a 0- 0 draw. Oh Dumas, where art thou now?

3-goals-goalie? Make sure it's a draw but at least all the fans will go home "entertained".

What's the pitch like at Goodison?

Put Coppinger on with Shola. They've played together plenty of times before and they will both be in their normal positions. Everton themselves did this to introduce Oster and Cadamarteri a couple of three seasons ago and Derby did it last season to bring their ex-self- stacker into the starting lineup.

May as well give them a chance as they will never get in when the forwards are fit again and the pressure will be less on them to perform than an established first team player struggling against injury or being in the wrong position. Seems to have been a tactic that has got sides out of the clarts before now.

Of course, we could just let Alan hobble about outside the box crossing to Mr Nobody, but we have to remember to defend further upfield as nobody in the side can break quickly (get broken quickly, es, but break, no) and he stands no chance of getting from our half to the danger zone before any of their 10 outfield players.

Coppinger (stop me when this sounds familiar) is quick, bright and knows how to put the ball in the net. Nobody else seems to have all 3 of those. Yes, he's a shortarse, but the only player capable of occasionally flighting a decent ball into the box will be playing for Peru and Glass will be lucky to make the bench being naturally left- footed and all that.

Tactics? Find more than two fit players capable of playing in midfield. That would be a good start. Actually, I'm going to Goddison tomorrow. Might just pack my boots - I'll have the shirt on already (different logo, but who cares). Watch this space........

My main concern is a player like Thomas Gravesen who can run all day and will probably destroy our midfield whoever plays.

11 defenders and hope they haven't got the nous to break us down. Mind you we'd still probably score an own goal. Oh I dunno, it's too depressing to think about :-((

Apparently Robson has sat the squad down in front of a video and shown themn an hours worth of shite defending. Must have been an easy compilation, after all there was plenty material.

Can't see it making a blind bit of difference though as most of the team are probably running around at 75% fitness and no matter how hard they try or how intelligent they are if the body won't do it they'll fail.
