Are there scientists that monitor the stability of the Kilauea Volcano, and if it were to break off, is there any way to prevent it from doing so much damage?

The Kilauea Volcano is monitored by the staff of the U.S. Geological Survey at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) as far back as 1911. You can even check an up to date status on it at http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/kilauea/update/ ....Kilauea Volcano puts out 350,000 cubic yards of lava every day. All this lava is currently flowing over and under old lava flows and is currently not a threat to the communities on the island...to answer your question, if a volcano is going to erupt, there isn't anything anyone can do to prevent damage, the best they can do is predict when the Kilauea will erupt violently, and evacuate people from the area.
