I am doing a research paper on EAP for school. I've just started and have not compiled much info yet. Maybe you can help me... If you can steer me towards any websites or books I would appreciate it. The paper is on his background and why he wrote the way he did. Psychological insight! I've only accumulated basic history. If I come accross anything interesting I can send to you but if you've been researching him for 2 years you must know quite a bit already.

i dont think "poe was a drunken idiot" is a satisfactory psychoanalytical report, many of his poems and stories (if not all) involve much psychological stress and i think this reflects the torment his mind was going through, i believe he was wracked with guilt about the death of his wife at such an early age - the guilt comes into play as he himself believed he could have treated her better, i think poe was as unstable as everyone is, we all have an insane element, we simply repress it to fit in with the social norms of the period, some people release these elements through their art (in poe's case poetry)
