Earthquake

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

So hey, guys, has anyone else ever been 64 stories in the air when a 6.8 earthquake hit? I do believe that was as scared as I've ever been! I'm pretty glad to still be around (THANK YOU structural engineers), and more anxious than ever to get out to my land! Just had to share. Thanks for listening.

Wife felt it across the river at 1 story underground. I didn't notice it but then again I miss a lot of things.

Boy, jz, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have missed the way that building was jumping and swaying. I guess a few floors up on the 76th floor, it swayed so much that a big filing cabinet fell over, blocking a door and trapping a few folks for a while. We just had some stuff falling off shelves and heard some disconcerting popping and cracking sounds, but that was plenty! (Turns out some of the fire insulation, some ceiling components, and some sheetrock couldn't put up with all the movement.)

So is the river you're talking about the Columbia? I was in Seattle.
