5-year-old eyes youngest smoker record

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The parents of a 5-year-old Lebanese boy have been encouraging their son to smoke with the hope of entering the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest smoker in the world, according to Wednesday's editions of the As Safir newspaper.

Abdel Karim al-Ali, who lives in the south Lebanon village of Majidiyeh, started smoking at the age of 3. The newspaper said al-Ali's parents could be "dazzled by their son's achievement for he is so skilful in smoking all kinds of cigarettes" and the region's traditional water pipe.

It said the boy does not hesitate in smoking in front of his friends and parents, and thinks that "the cigarette is better than child toys."

"Who would need advice? The boy Abdel Karim al-Ali or the parents who are promoting their innocent child's novelties?" asked As Safir.

discusting. I just finished "the runaway jury" it has convinced me to quit (again). I'm giving myself till my birthday, I quit two years ago and started again when my Mother got sick.

These parents probably haven't been educated in the dangers of smoking.

the runaway jury was very good. I'm into my 6th month as a non-smoker. I started late in life, age 30, and am now 47. I've gotta tell ya there isn't a time of day that I still wouldn't kill for a smoke. I'm chewing the shit out of nicorettes right now and it seems to help but nothing like a good, long drag...

Good luck with it Cherri, you know it won't be easy but you can do it...

I haven't smoked from a hookah (hubbly-bubbly) in ages. Course I never smoked tobacco in one. What's the point? Especially when there's red lebanese to be had. Poor kid.

Quit cold turkey, I did 26 years ago. I played the mind cames of "I'll quit tomorrow, blah, blah, blah." If you don't quit right now and vow not to be a slave to cigarettes, you will never quit for good.

UB Thanks, I quit 2 years ago while in the hospital, the patch worked pretty good for me, I have a box of nicorettes waiting to be used. I just didn't realize what a HABIT it was, get up-grab a cig, answer the phone, grab a cig, drink a cup of coffee-grab a cig, eat-grab a cig.
I am going to have to take up crocheting again, and embroidery and origami and... I didn't crave tobacco, I didn't miss the smoke itself, but the actions were a difficult thing to stop. I would suck on unlit cigs. I can go without smoking if I am busy, I have to make sure I get real busy. Besides the price is ridiculous.
My Dad quit smoking cold turkey 30 years ago when he had smoked for 30 years. He was a bitch for 3 months strait. 6 years ago when he had cancer (he beat it) I tried to get him to smoke something else to help his appetite and he was willing but afraid it would cause him to start cigarettes again.

That was a good book, it made me wonder....*grin*.
