Playing VCD's on a Toshiba Laptop DVD player

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have a Toshiba Laptop Model S401-2805 w/ a DVD player built in. The unit is pretty nice and I get good vide quality from DVD. I can't seem to get the Star Wars Trilogy on VCD (original from Malaysia) to play on it. Is there some kind of software I need for it? I am also interested in copying the series to my hard drive so I may watch them and don't have to carry around 6 cd's. Is this possible?? Thanks a lot!!

Yes you can but? After playing in VCD land now for 2 years. I have seen a problem that has popped up more than once. VCDs come in 2 flavors VCD1.1 and 2.0. To play the Star Wars don't run a DVD player. Instead use Media player 2? It can be made into full screen. About VCD2.0: If you try to take the Mpegav (asveq) file and load it onto you harddrive. But you get an ERROR. This means that your DVD-rom is 1.)Not fast enough to read who ever made the burn. or 2.) The burner made an unreadable copy for your media setup.

If you can however play them without the above problems. Just do a copy and past of the Mpegav file onto your harddrive (be sure to rename each one you put in or otherwise you will erase each one everytime you copy and paste it)
