Will this work?....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I just wanted to get this strait. If I put an .mpeg on a Cd-r, it will run on my vcd player correct? (Or do I ABSOLUTLEY need an intro/ menu program). I was also wondering if you could put more than one .mpeg file on a cd-r. Thank you

P.s. I am also aware that some Vcd players won't run certain cd-r's, or copies, etc.

You must have special software (Nero, EZCD Creator Delux, etc.) to create a proper VCD.

I can't say what the upper limit would be for the number of MPG's that can be put on a VCD. The most I've ever put on one is 20 three minute files = 60 minutes total.

Intro's and menues are optional.

I would recommend working with CDrw while in the learning stage. If you don't currently own one, you may want to invest in one. You can pay for it on wasted CDr's. Also, VCD/DVD players are more likely to recognize CDrw's over CDr.

#1 you must make your Mpeg a Mpeg1 VCD1.1 or 2.0 white book complaint video stream. Tmpegnc will do this. To make a video CD! You need to take this Mpeg and and a VCD file to go with it. If you have a burner. Sometimes you might get lucky and have a VCD maker in it. NTI, Adaptec cd deluxe, & Nero all can do this. You can get a Nero 30 trial period. Nero is the best because it can take a raw mpeg file.

The VCD file will have in it:Entries.vcd/Info.vcd/Lot.vcd/Psd.vcd these are the key to tell the stand alone player "Hay I'm a Movie, Play ME!" A computer doesn't need these you can just play the file:)

You can fit up to 1hr to 1 hr & 4-5 min. max on a 700mb disc

Cdr media. There at this time is alot of CDrs out there. Different die for blue, black, gold, some silver. A real VCD is PRESSED on silver disc. A CDrw is as close to a silver disc as you can get it. However most DVDs can read a CDr !!! You just have to find the one that works. www:vcdhelper.com as a player list in it. Bring yours up and see if other people did it.

I believe that you can put up to 99 mpegs on a vcd (AVSEQ01.DAT .. AVSEQ99.DAT). They would, or course, have to be very short clips (under a minute each).
