Good thing this is just a friendly. James? :-o

That's P. Neville at right back?

That's what SportingLife are saying Geordie - looks weird to me. England FB's - Phil Neville and Chris Powell? Maybe Warren Barton has been put on standby!
Also, Ferdinand rather than Wes Brown looks a bit suspect, as does a CB paring of Ferdinand and Campbell?

Oh well, we'll soon find out - I just hope the senior Spanish side aren't as good as their Under-21's were last night. Talk to y'all later.

Bear in mind we have another team on the bench, of which 7 can (and probably will) come on in the second half. Halftime has us 1-0 up, with a goal from Nick Barmpot. Typical midfielder's goal - running onto a through ball, beating his man for position and pace. I'd love it, just love it if I could see similar movement and pace in our team. Last time was Acuna's goal against Leeds. A fit LKD could do it, but he'd need to hit the target more often.

Ehiogu, Ball, McCann (spit), Heskey, Martyn and Lampard on for James, Powell, Beckham and a few others. Cole and Owen still playing up front with Heskey.

2-0 Heskey according to Auntie

Guess someone forgot to tell Spain that England didn't have a particularly strong line-up. ;-) 2-0!

3-0. Ehiogu from a corner. Strolled into the area unmarked and powered a header past the hapless keeper. I think even Claky or I could have socred that one ;-)

.....but mebbes not after a few beers!

I see Campbell got the captains armband at half time. Significant?

Confidence booster for wor Aaron... currently 4-0 down and:

" 20 mins A bad mistake from Newcastle's Aaron Hughes lets in Thorstein Helstad to shoot Norway into the lead. "

Not sure about any significance in Campbell getting the armband. Beckham went off but hasn't much to prove to SGE. What perhaps is more significant is that Ehiogu had a better game than Ferdinand (IMHO), scoring a goal and giving away a "non-penalty" which was saved by Martyn.

Very encouraging start for SGE, and a solid performance from most of the players - including Phillip Neville.

I've just watched N.Ireland and Norway and it was a good match from my point of view. But Aaron H. didn't play too well today, and the first goal was purely his fault. On the norwegian team Helstad once again impressed.

I just hope Ingerland don't have to play that team in white in last night's match, I thought they looked vor canny. :-)

Booed at SJP, booed at Windsor Park..poor Aaron.

-- Anonymous, March 01, 2001

Aaron may have been booed at Windsor Park, but the booing certainly wasn't directed at him at SJP.

Clarky - I was referring to the general booing.
