Contrairy to what this blundering fool said, E.A. Poe won several awards for writing contests, nothing big. I believe one of the contests was for the Philadelphia Saturday Courrier, in which he won $50 for a storie entitled: MS. FOUND IN A BOTTLE.

In addition to his "prize" of $50.00 for "Ms Found in a Bottle", Poe won $100.00 for his story "The Gold Bug". Poe received no recognition through awards during his life time. He was inducted into the literary hall of fame of New York University in 1910, I believe. The latest recognition of his brilliance is the "Edgar", an award given annually by the Mystery Writers of America to the best of the mystery genre.
