Time for a Poll-Bush's speech

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

I quickly looked at the threads below and didn't see one for Bush's address last night. I was wondering what the folks here thought of it. Me first. I thought it went rather well. It looks like he's learning how to stop smirking and biting his lip. And for content, I thought he stole a lot of thunder from the other side of the isle.

On the other hand, Clinton's body language reeked with "I hate this guy". At one time she clapped half heartedly and rolled her eyes.

Funny, I can picture you doing the same thing when you're viewing the Clintons...[G].

I thought the speech went well. He has a good sense of humor and seemed very much in control. I also liked his plans for the future (although why presidents always talk in terms of *10 year plans* I will never understand).

And yeah, I rolled my eyes all the time when Clinton was up there and would shout at the TV "Stop applauding already!" Not so much last night ;-)

Good one Peg! WB, BTW.

Maria, did you expect Hillary to be jovial? Should she have jumped up and down like a teeny-bopper seeing the Beatles for the first time?

That was last night? [I really ought to turn on the T.V. once in a while.]

Rich, no not really but that would have been funny! I expected her to be more stoical, don't know why. After your comment, it hit me that that expectation was unrealistic.

You know, if Hillary had shown support for the new president she would have been immediatley villified as disingenuous. There's no amount of money I'd accept to be placed in the position of damned if you do and damned if you don't. What a horrible life.

Is there a link to the text of the speech? I was watching the devils.

I was watching the devils.

Hey, how did Lars get on tv? :-)

Rich, it's called power. I agree, no amount of money would make me go into the fish bowl. But IMO politicians do it for the "power".

Here ya go, FS.

Duly noted, Maria.

He boxed the dems in pretty good I thought. The Daschle-Gebhart rebuttal was was so canned and campy it's hard to believe they still have anybody listening.

It is ludicrous to comment on what Bush said. You may have some notion about how he said what he said, but the words are empty rhetoric until you see what is actually presented. Like all presidents talking to the public about complex issues, the speech is necessarily dumbed down-and when you dumb down and do not really present the "facts" it is easy to look good and feel good.

From what I have read in the details of the plan, it is going to need a LOT of work. Seems to me to be voodoo, trickle down economics all over again.

Bush is a major-league asshole, and he spews nothing but lies and deception.

He needs to work on 2 things:

1. Learn how to speak like an intelligent human being.

2. Speak the honest truth, don't be a master of deception and lies.

When that happens, I may be able to tell you what you want to hear.
