Is there any compatibility issue between a Leica M2 and an Elmarit 21 ASPH owing to the size/depth of the back lens ?

There are no compatibility issues at all in this setup. most compatibility problems come with metered bodies - things like the original Super-Angulon with the M6, or problems caused by interference with the M5's meter stalk. The M2 has no compaitibility issues with any M-mount lens.

The earlier 21's stuck further into the body than the current 21 asph. Since the earlier 21's worked fine with the M2/3/4, I cannot see why the new asph version will not work as well. There can be metering and/or clearance issues when using certain of the earlier 21's on the M5, M6, CL and CLE.

Well if there is I have yet to discover it. I use a 21/2.8 Asph on a M6TTL and M2.
