Call-Ups A Plenty

We're still awaiting news of the outcome of the England v Germany U15 International at Southend United on Saturday evening. United were represented by two players in the squad (Lewis Guy and Ross Gardner) but we don't yet know whether they were in action at Roots Hall.

Newcastle are also well-represented in the England U17 squad, who face Holland this Thursday (1st March) at Topfield, home of Hitchin Town with a 4pm kickoff

Striker Michael Chopra and midfielder Damon Robson both impressed during the recent England youth training session in La Manga, and made the cut down from an initial 35 named players. Now Chopra's strike partner Richard Offiong has been drafted in to the squad.

Finally, all three of the toon youngsters in the Northumberland U16 side were on target on Saturday, securing a Northern Counties semi final place.

Goals from Chris Gates, Wesley Richardson and Craig Appleby contributed to a 4-4 draw against their South Yorkshire counterparts.

A little chink of blue sky in the unremitting gloom. Actually Shola's performance for the U-21s tonight was another. Keep going like this and we'll soon have enough for a pair of sailor's trousers.
