Does anyone know of heirloom tomatoe varietys well adapted to the S.E. portion of the U.S. ? Paarticularly, southern S.C. or southern Ga. Also, where they may be available for sale? Thanx!

Burpee's has a Brandywine that I planted the last two year they did great for me. I am in the south central area of NC. Someone suggested that I try Mortgage Lifter this year and I have already started the seedlings. Hi Margaret, check out www.heirloomtomatoes.net There's a great variety to choose from. As Debbie mentioned, Mortgage Lifter is a great one and as Ernest said, Jeff Davis is very good too. I grew them both here in Tenn, and both did great. Had more Jeff Davis tomatoes than I knew what to do with! I also liked Akers WVA, Arkansas Traveler, Church, Winns All, and Cherokee Purple. I tried a yellow one called Earl of Edgecomb. It was the best tasting yellow one I had ever eaten. Well worth growing. Have fun trying to make up your mind, this web site has tons of varieties! :) Also, I grew German Johnson, but had a terrible fungus problem with it. Don't know if it was because of our really wet spring last year or if the tomato was very susceptible to it, but I won't try it again this year. It didn't seem to like our humid summers.
