I can just see our reaction to the "Shearer out for 3 weeks with freak shoulder injury" if he'd lumped his bag roond!

I thought this thread was going to be a forum to talk about my new found form on the golf course!

Okay!

New set of 'Hippo' clubs bought in the new year sales. I'd been playing with my Dad's clubs before that. My Dad's clubs were no doubt a good set 20 years ago but technology has gone so far in the current game that I thought I might as well invest in a new set, with those fangles metal woods etc.

Tungsten inserts in the heel of the club to stop slicing which I thought was cheating but what the hey!

Anyway I'd been scoring, without an official handicap at around the high 20's handicap range with the off flurry into the low 20's.

I played with my new clubs for the first time on Friday afternoon. A gentle 9 holes to ease them in! Over 9 holes I scored 45, on a par 71 course, so rough calcs say I was a 19 handicap that day.

I'm all for new technology easing my game as these new clubs are light years ahead in ease of use and accuracy!!

That's it really, nowt special, of course you golfers out there will appreciate the feeling!

I found that when I got a new joystick, my scores inproved signifcantly. No more lining up the shots with the keyboard anymore. Ah, isn't technology wonderful.

It's not what you use DB - it's simply how many. Good on yer.

I bought myself some new Calloway irons in a sale to go with the 'woods' I already owned, when I was in the US a couple of years ago.
They made an immediate improvement in my game of about 5 shots per round - reduced my handicap to 55!!

>>"Tungsten inserts in the heel of the club to stop slicing"

Interesting.... you usually weight the TOE of the club to prevent slicing. Causes more right->left and overspin (assuming you are right handed). Keep up the good scoring!

I'm tempted to purchase a new set of irons while I'm over here but can't afford it. I've just whacked a family skiing holiday on the plastic and haven't got funds to pay for that!

The most usual thing you notice with new clubs are:
increased distance - this is down to having new shafts. Shafts deteriorate over a few years
increased confidence - amazing how shiny clubs make you feel better about your game than the old rusty ones.

Maybe we should get Dunx to start a Golf category ;-))

Better tecnolgy=improved accuracy=instills confidence=better scores

Geordie, I was thinking about this on the way back from Coventry today, well after a mind numbing day talking about Un-interruptible Power supplies, Air Conditioning, Roofing and Fire detection systems, the golf thing was far more interesting.

(For clarification I'm taking the toe as the end furthest away from the body at address)

The way I saw it was that the relative lack of weight in the toe of the club head meant that as you bring the club down it would move through the air quicker as it would require less force to bring it down.

Confusing because I totally see your point about the weighted edge leading through quicker. There could be a totally easy way of solving this by visiting hippogolf.co.uk but I can never get through to their web site!!

Don't need to understand the science if it works De B!
move yer right hand a fraction and you're hooking, fatter grips and you'll be slicing.... just stand there and hit the thing
