Getting behind the lads

Right, we have all had our say. I still think the problems are fundamental and relate to lack of decent, long term investment in the past rather than anything inherently wrong with the players themselves. Remember Leeds? They just aren't good enough to sustain this for an entire season, that's the end of the story really. Getting on their backs won't help. They were paralysed with fear on Saturday and that is the fault of the Chronicle for faxing those fecking letters to the players, then publishing them again last week, as well as every journalist who has said a hyperbolic word about them. How do we think Arsenal fans are feeling now? Truth is, tackling has never been Nobby's game, distribution has never been Shay's strength, we know Goma wants to go but he's doing his bit, Aaron and Griff are still bairns but look to have great futures with the club, Warren has never been anything other than a journeyman but works his balls off, Shearer is past-it but that's not his fault - we have to get behind the players and the manager. Another change in manager would be NUFC's epitaph in my opinion.

Dougal, I'm not being funny and don't take this the wrong way but you can't criticise the Chronicle for publishing letters when you sent one to them. I presume when you sent it you thought it would get published?

DB, I'm not sure that I did think it would be published and furthermore, you are on here enough to know that I apologised and commented on the irresponsibility of the Chronicle faxing letters, some of which I can guarantee were less measured than mine which largely criticised the lack of investment in the team, and all of which were knee-jerk reactions.

What most people don't realise is that apart from the fans and the players no one else gives a stuff about NUFC. It's times like this that "the worlds best supporters" should stick with the team. I remember a couple of years ago (when we were third) the fans got on the lads back in a big way and Les didn't celebrate a goal and gesticulated to the fans. That year we finished 2nd despite Dalglish and everything. Maybe it was down to the players character. I mean, relying on a 21 year old to drive the team whilst injured won't work will it?

A bit of action is needed - and positive, not negative.

I really hope the people who go to Everton are a bit easier on them...we've had some canny results away from home this season.

I think the fans are now resigned to the fact that the season is over and will be very quite, win or lose for the remainder of the season.
