Semana Santa, Copyright 2001 Jeff Spirer

Semana Santa is Holy Week in Spanish.

This is a set up shot. I've wanted to shoot here since they painted the building. It's a combination muffler shop and flower shop.

Tina Modatti, while living with Ed Weston, in Mexico, did many "set- up" shots, as did Weston himself, especially of Diego Rivera, various nudes, including Tina, cactus, toys and toilets, and Diego's wife herself. Nothing wrong with that at all!

Of all the photographs you have posted, this is my favorite. I like this style of imagery...I don't know why, I just do. I guess it's because there is some thought involved in it.

Jeff... it's an amazing photo to me, because although i know it's "set up", it doesn't look forced. the fact that you saw this site, then put all this together makes me shake my head in wonderment. it's downright spooky or maybe i should say "holy", the way the elements and colors of the illustration echo the scene itself.

it's definitely one of my favs of yours too.
