What happened to Dolly the Sheep?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

Hello old pals,

In light of recent news about human cloning on the horizon, (check out this scary website) I am trying to remember what happened to Dolly. I know she died, and do I remember correctly that there was a premature aging problem?

Or if you don't remember the details, any suggestions for word combinations for search engines? I have done about 50 searches so far, but I can't find any mention of what became of her.

p.s. This place really has changed, but it still has the one most important element: people with too much time on their hands. So here's something to keep you busy. Think of it as a challenge for an old friend.

Thanks, and nice to see you all.

Dolly turned out to be a sheep in lamb's clothing.

Ahhh, so nice to be back. Thank you so much for the productive and informative response. Your contribution has reinforced the time(bomb)-honored policy of offering ad hominem attacks in response to simple questions.

Generally, when someone asks what happened to someone else, they mean how did they die. What was the cause of their death? What were the circumstances of their demise? If you just heard that Dale Earnhart was dead, would you not ask, "What happened to him?"

"moronic clusterfuck" ... an interesting construction. I wouldn't think that a moron would be into that sort of thing. But you would know more about that than I.

I hadn't heard or found anything stating she had died, Mac. (Are you sure?) Apparently she was still alive as as recently as January 2001...

That's not an ad hominen attack?

Like a typical troll, you can dish it out but you can't take it.

Hey CD, thanks for the link. Good article. I have quite a bit of stock in that company...which has gone down since I bought it a year or so ago. Nevertheless, I feel strongly in what they are doing. Taz

DOLLY THE SHEEP IN SPECIAL QUARANTINE

2:09 Friday 2 March 2001

The foot-and-mouth outbreak has prompted scientists to place the world's first cloned sheep in quarantine.

Dolly the sheep has been isolated from other animals at the Roslin Institute, near Edinburgh.

The research centre has also been closed to visitors until the disease is under control.

Professor Ian Wilmut, of the institute, said the precautions were the same as those being taken at other farms, but acknowledged that Dolly was a special case.

He said: "She is valuable to us, but any farmer would be concerned to try to prevent the infection of animals on their farm.

"We are doing whatever other people have done - we are as vulnerable as anyone else and we are taking sensible precautions.

"The institute gets a lot of visitors, but at the moment we are telling people not to go onto the farms, just as other people are saying don't go walking in the countryside."

I was pretty damned sure she died out in a storm a while ago. Now they are saying she is quarantined. I think they may have cloned another one...
