I have a copy of Edgar A. Poe's " The Prose Tales of Edgar A. Poe" the copyright date in the cover is 1876 by W.J. Widdleton, New York. It says First Series inside. It is also inscripted Ella Roosevelt Thompson 23 August, 1881 on the first page. Could someone tell me anything about this book please.

Fred,

The book is one of a three volume set printed in 1877 by W. J. Widdleton of New York and was originally issed as "Widdleton's Cheap Edition of Poe's Works". According to the Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore, it was originally printed as a paperback and sold for 50 cents a volume. It was later reprinted by A. C. Armstrong & Son of New York in 1884. As to the value, I would have no idea but if it is in good condition, you should check with an antique book dealer.

Good luck

Regards,
