Top Toon rumour of the day is courtesy of a Newcastle United fan who emailed us with a story she heard in her local social club.

According to the lady in question, Michael Bridges is indeed on his way back to Tyneside - and in fact has already put pen to paper!

I have a new Bridges/ toon rumour each week, the latest one being

Another Week, another Michael Bridges / toon story ... Michael Bridges was been seen house hunting in Plessey Crescent , Whitley Bay last week fueling speculation that the geordie born striker is to make a sensational "shearer like" return to Geordieland in the summer. He was earlier seen chatting to friends in a bar in the town centre, but neither confirmed nor denied the rumours that he was set to link up with Alan Shearer at Newcastle United. Michael's father Joe, was also staying tight lipped about the situation saying only "GO AWAY" when we approached him at the weekend. Both Bobby Robson and Freddie Shepherd are said to be keen on buying Bridges, but will wait until he returns to first team action with Leeds United before they make an offer. Leeds United are in desperate need of £10 million so that they can complete the signing of Robbie Keane from Inter Milan. And with Bridges still under 23 years old they would expect to get a fee for him even if transfer fees are scrapped for older players. However Newcastle may wish to bide their time knowing that Bridges could move for free the following year.
