Voigtlander 35 Ultron 1.7

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Does anyone know if the Voigtlander 35mm Ultron 1.7 (w/ hood attached) intrudes into the 35mm frameline, when mounted on a Leica M6? Also, does anyone know how the quality of this lens compares with the Voigtlander 35mm Color Skopar 2.5?

As I know that lens is a screw mount one so what you ask (if it will bring the 35mm frame lines in a leica M) will depend on the converter you use.

Thanks for the response. I realize that the Voigtlander's are screw mount lenses and require the correct adapter to bring up the correct framelines. What I'm actually wondering about is if this lens w/ hood attached intrudes into the framelines, as is the case w/ some Leica lenses w/ hoods attached.

It pokes into the corner of the frame a bit on my M4-2, but not enough to be distracting. This is not a small lens--I probably would have held out for a 35 Summicron if I'd realized that it's as big as, or even bigger than, a 50/1.4, and heavy.

I have been using the Ultron for a few weeks on my M4-P, and think that it's a great lens. Seems better than my 70's vintage Summicron 35/2. Even Erwin Puts reports that you have to buy a current ASP 35/2 to do better, and that's another $1000. The intrusion into the frame line is slight, although the shade seems too small. The old Summicron shade was a great design, the way you could see "through" it. I bought mine "as new" with box and papers for less than $400 on eBay.
