greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread

Hi. I need information for my research paper about how Edgar Allan Poe is the father of the modern detective stories. I have 3 topics that i have to write about in my research paper, they are: what is a detective? How does Poe use deductive and inductive reasoning in his stories, and how does the detective solve a crime in his stories? If you could give me any information on these topics it would be great. I you could send me this information soon it would be perfect.

Thank You

"Murders in the Rue Morgue" was the first detective story, hence rendering Poe as the father thereof. In order to fully understand how inductive and deductive reasoning is used, reading the work aforesaid, "The Murder of Marie Roget," and "The Purloined Letter" would afford you a great comprehension of the desired information. I hope that this has somehow helped you in your studies. Respectfully, P A Regan
