Kylah,

Poe was well educated in the classics, Greek and Romand mythology and literature and as an idealistic young man was filled with ideas with which to fulfill his passion for poetry. In a letter to John Neal, an aquaintance of his foster father, he wrote, "I am young - not yet twenty - am a poet... I would give the world to embody one half the ideas afloat in my imagination."

Poe's first book of poems was published in June 1827 and was titled "Tamerlane and Other Poems."
