Ronnie and Journal???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Is anyone else able to view today's editions online? I'm still getting Saturday's when I go to their sites. Even tried putting in the Sports Plus url directly and am getting last Monday's. Have flushed the cache, so it's not that.

Ciara,

I've noticed the Ronnie sometimes doesn't put it's online edition up until nearly 14:00 so keep trying. Of course maybe they've got nowt to say.

I think they must have been consigned to the Great Chip Shop in the Sky (or perhaps hanging on a nail in the backyard netty).

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Neither seems to have been updated today, well if you can't say owt sensible........

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Probably nowt to say. (What's new?) The Ronnie placards in the toon were something about £4m and Bridges and Traffic chaos around St James if that's any help!

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Why on earth in the current highway infrasturcture confusion would the club want to build a £4 million bridge to ease traffic congestion in an around the stadium??!

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Well if it's a bridge directly from the stadium to the Strawbeery, I'm all for it! ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

If that's the case then the new bridge must be to go over the new drainage channel which is running out of the stadium in an effort to improve the state of the pitch.

Not sure where the new river will run to but £4million for the bridge does sound excessive!!

Can't see Leeds letting Bridges go for £4m.....I reckon they would want at least double that

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

How bout if we throw in Glass and bite their hands off?

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Why would Leeds want double that? he hasn't set the world on fire has he? (i know about his injuries)....

Think about it....Leeds are in the same position now as what we were a few years ago, they've bought all this talent in, don't need some of it and need to recoup cash.....we let go of good players for less than they were bought or the same price so why can't the same be true of them....

I'll have him for 4 mill but not a penny more Meester Oh Leary....

Has he started training yet? Is there a remote chance that this transfer could go through before the transfer deadline in March?

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

I think Ronnie must be waiting for the builders to finish SJP. It really pi$$es me off that they can't get an up-to-date picture of the place.

Bridges for £4M? I'd go for it. I'd even hoy Marcelino in (into what, i'm not saying)

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

They've got a new URL !!

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Just tried to get onto the Journal page and you get directed to the IC Newcastle web-site. A tad confusing and the format is not nearly as good. I clicked on football and the headlines did not mention anything about a Bridges bid and indeed stories further down the list were old!

Anyone know what's going on?

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Bridges story

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Seems really slow to load the pages, much slower than the Ronnie.

I liked the routine of logging onto the Journal at about 9.25am for new stories and then again at about 1pm.

Change huh!

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Sorry about that. Here's the Bridges Story

You can find the new link href="http://icnewcastle.ic24.com">there.

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Hmmm.....is this by the same people who brought us Coxy? Never heard of the most basic of web 'rules'....if you change your url, put a message or redirect on your old one!

Still waiting for it to load, so having a whinge in the meantime. ;-))

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Err, I give up. It's been one of those days <:-(

Sorry!

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

What a big fucking steaming pile of giz!

Jesus christ, it's no wonder people get pissed off with new technology when there's so many idiots in charge....

I know, I've got a great idea......lets take the online editions of 2 regional newspapers that are widely read and combine their sites onto an even bigger but much slower site that updates the stories later in the day.....sounds good doesn't it?

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

it's frankly, toss

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Have to agree with you, Gav. And i do plan on emailing them when I get home(and can view this mess on a decent computer...try looking at it on a 16 color display...OUCH!). If I want anonymous news wire stuff, there's plenty of sites to give it to me. I want to read the same thing I would get if I lived there and could buy the papers. Bet this was cooked up by people waving MBA's, spouting marketing theory they read ina book, and have no grasp of reality. :-|

However, on a first glance, they do seem to have achieved a decent generic website to act as a first stop for tourists wanting general info on the area and reasonably up to date news and event listings. That is something Newcastle has not had.

Still want my Ronnie and Journal back!

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Took me ages to find the Bridges story (waste of time - just the usual speculation) and I can't find the traffic chaos one anywhere. Shall we all e-mail them and tell them it's sh*te.

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Yes, Steph. Took me ages as well. I won't ream them too much for half the content disappearing off the end of my browser, though. That's just a case of my work pc being the perfect lab for anyone wanting to see their site on truly the lowest form of computer life. Still doesn't win any prizes as an intuitive, easy to navigate site.

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Well, I don't think it's that bad! You can't blaeme the content on the new format. Same old garbage by Alan Oliver et al. At least you can filter out the Mackem cr@p by selecting only NUFC stuff. That has to be a big improvement.

I'd wait a day or so until they get the content refreshed - agreed there's some old cr@p, but that will disappear in time. Haven't tried on a dial-up link but I'd say performance was on a par with Ronnie and far, far better than the pile of s*ite that used to be done by the SS0.

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

It's abysmal on dial-up Screach. Though not as bad as the Sunday Sun which I quit trying to access ages ago because it was so overblown for no value when I finally did manage to download it.

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Well, despite my previous attempts, why not try bookmarking this?

There's sections on News, Player Profiles (with thumnail piccies), fixture list (well, they promise them!), match reports and tables (slightly out of date!). A bliddy site (sic) better IMHO than the orificial s*ite in this respect if they get the content sorted.

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

They've also got Gary Speed's Pink columns online. It's under the Sports Columnists link. Took at least 5min to download. Still not entirely convinced this is better than seperate Journal and Ronnie sites. But it may have some advantage as it's own entity. Perhaps more a case where they should have made a more gradual transition and not cut off the old sites until this one was fully developed. Web 101 folks.

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Cheers Screach, why couldn't I find that page?

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

I'll leave you to answer that question yourself Steph ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

It's a cunning plan to get everyone to fork out 65p for their two publications each day rather than view them on-line for nowt.

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Not much good for me in Northampton though.:0(

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2001

Had a good look around the ICNewcastle site this morning and really enjoyed myself. It downloads fast enough but then I have a top notch connection at work and it was 10am. I like having a page just for NUFC articles and a one-stop site for local news, pub, film and eating guides is a good idea. Keep trying it and hopefully the increased traffic will force them to upgrade their server.
