WV - Regional jet forced to land at Benedum

Thursday February 15, 2001

By The Associated Press

BRIDGEPORT - A Comair Canadair regional jet heading to Benedum Airport for routine maintenance made an emergency landing Wednesday at the airfield after a warning light indicated a problem with the landing gear.

The only people on the plane were the pilot and co-pilot. The jet landed safely shortly after 8 a.m., said Jim Griffith the airport's manager.

Airport emergency equipment was brought out as a precautionary measure, he said.

"You can't ignore that type of situation. It takes some sort of action to be prepared.''

The jet was headed to the West Virginia Air Center, which is located at the airport.

A call to Comair headquarters in Cincinnati was not immediately returned.
