Washington area customers of Verizon Communications'
high-speed Internet service yesterday complained of a
complete loss of service -- some for the fourth day in
a row -- in the latest misstep for the dominant local
telephone company.

Asked to account for those customers reporting outages
lasting for days, Plumb said, "Those are individual user
problems, not a function of a systemic network-wide problem."
