i think that is a great idea especially since the deja.com chat room is now altered and practically unusable. i was hoping to access it for some post-show chat but have given up on the deja site.

Lee asked me this question privately; I'm going to repeat what I said to him for the benefit of anyone else who might be interested.

I have a policy of not doing anything you can find elsewhere on the Internet in a better format. Many of you have asked me why the site has virtually no information on the cast; it's because I don't have the time, energy, or interest in putting together comprehensive details on them. There are, however, people who do have the time, energy, and interest in assembling great fan sites dedicated to the actors; my entry into the market would suck, and it's much easier to just point you elsewhere. For the same reason, I won't be adding a chat feature to the site. If I were to do it, I'd have to write the code myself (or steal it from someone, and modifying it would be essentially the same thing). The applet would be buggy and prone to crashing your browser, because I don't have hundreds of man-hours to throw at the problem. You'd be annoyed because it was unusable. I'd have to learn a brand-new programming language. It'd be a lot of work, in other words, and I'm a lazy bastard.

There is, however, a free Internet-wide alternative: IRC. Grab a client, set up your own channel, and you're off to the races. If people are interested in getting together to chat, by all means do so; I certainly won't stop you, and you don't need my help to do it.
