Can I encourage youse all

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

to buy this month's True Faith? There's the usual stuff plus an article by a mate of mine on Newcastle's NI connections and two by me, one on the crapness of our holding back on the academy and another on the Spurs game. Nice poster of Shay Given and a cute pic of Aaron pretending to be a True Faith seller. Wearing a hat that doesn't altogether suit him.

Love to buy it. As soon as the local Seven Eleven(closest thing to a newsagent around here) starts carrying it. ;-)

Dougal - If the new EU rules come in there will be no point in Building an acadamy

It would always be good to see a youngster come through the ranks, they would be suited to the way the club plays and works.

Not every youth player we bring up is going to leave!

If the Academy debate is about delaying the building of it, what difference does it make where they are based as long as someone is developing a solid youth structure.

DlF,

"If the new EU rules come in there will be no point in Building an acadamy."

Explain.

I was under the impression that compensation was due to clubs for players under 24.

I think DlF means that we don't need to develop our own players because we can just lure other teams players instead.

Something I don't think I agree with. Somebody has to raise the young lads and if it means we produce a few all the better.

Can we really afford to lure the 'good' players though, if we've no cash to splash on transfer fees can we splash the cash on signing on fees? Develop from within and no huge signing on fees - or am I being too simplistic?

-- Anonymous, February 16, 2001

Yep too simplistic. The clubs with the big turnovers will rule, and buy the best, those without the advanage of a turnover will lose their top stars.

Our turnover will probably be over 50million this season, one of the biggest in europe, we pay 6million a year on aour debt, that still leaves on of the biggest turnovers. We are the HAVES. THATS SIMPLISTIC scatch.

I strongly believe every club -Big and small- in this new enviroment needs an acadamy, to add structure to the club by simply farming players 'who really and desperately want to play for NUFC' as much as wanting shit loads of money. Where as with foregners, it could be just the need of money which motivates. We have to have an acedamy, for the future of the club, an acedamy is the spine of any football club, ASK AJAX, MAN UTD.

No point in building an academy? Aye, you can see the changes to the transfer system stopping Man United developing their own talent. Sorry, Dvae, but NUFC has to be bigger than that.

Of course, if you want the benefit of my whole argument for getting the academy sorted whatever the transfer situation, gan and buy True Faith....:o))
