Here we go again....more stabbings!!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread |
It's getting very very very dangerous to support an english team in europe.... Eleven Liverpool fans have been stabbed before or during the Uefa Cup match against Roma.
Six British fans were taken to Rome hospitals, and two Norwegian Liverpool fans were also stabbed.
Three English supporters were also stabbed in the early hours of Thursday following isolated attacks in the city centre.
The Foreign Office says none of their wounds are not thought to be life-threatening.
Superintendent Dave Lewis of Merseyside police, who was liaising with Italian officials at the fourth round first-leg match, says Liverpool fans had been well behaved and blamed the violence on Italians targeting small groups of away supporters.
He said: "We believe the victims were in the vicinity of the stadium when they were attacked. There is the possibility that these people travelled by taxi and then were attacked as they made their way around the stadium.
"There were no large confrontations between rival fans. These were again separate incidents where home supporters appear to have targeted either individuals or small groups."

UEFA should be making statements about banning Turks/Italians from European competition.

A very disturbing set of incidents. Is this just foreign fans trying to stir up the sh!t with English teams, hoping for a reaction? There seemed to be a bit of a pattern - at least in two seperate incidents, the victims were stabbed in the buttocks (BBC for @rse). Seems to me like a cowardly approach from the rear, inflict a non-life-threatening wound and bugger off sharpish into the crowds.
