Hello!

Hello All and Greetings! I've just set up this forum in the hope that this nice, intelligent, Scottish man might be able to exchange messages with a nice, intelligent, American female. Hope to hear from someone soon!

Richard,

I am afraid it will be difficult for you to tell whether you are corresponding with a female. Are you familiar with Alan Turing and the original proposal for the so-called Turing test?

Mr. Turing was one of the earliest and most influential developers of the theories that underlie modern computers. In the early 1950s he published an influential paper in which he suggested a test for whether a computer program had developed a human level of intelligence. In this test, he envisioned a judge sitting at a terminal, exchanging text messages with several unknown interlocutors. At least one of these interlocutors would be a computer program pretending to be a woman, and at least one of them would be a man pretending to be a woman.

Mr. Turing proposed that when a computer program could deceive the judge about its true nature at least as often as the man did, then the computer program could be considered as intelligent as the man.

You catch my drift?

There are a few of us who are honest on here. Hi Richard.. Love your isle of Scotland. I use to be a fan in the 70's of the Bay City Rollers, even met them here in the States. Write if you like.. This can be a fun place.. but do not take it too serious..
