Duncan, oh lord and master

Dunx - there seems to be a very interesting thread developing regariding non footy stuff - namely Geneology. Can we start/transfer a thread especially for this kind of stuff? Yeah, yeah, I know it depends on how folks categorise the initial posting, but this is an important subject to many (albeit non-footy) which I think is doing a tremendous community service. I might even get into it myself when I return to my roots in a few month's time!

Screach. My wife's cousin got bitten by the genealogy bug a while back, and has quite an extensive history of the family going back about 200 yrs. He's even found relatives in Ohio and is in regular contact with them. If you're really interested in that sort of stuff I can put you in touch with him for some tips on getting started.

Totally agree Screacher. I've been feeling guilty posting this sort of stuff on a footie BBS, especially as I think it probably bores the pants off most people. It did me, until I got the bug a few months ago. Now I'm obsessed about trying to find out things like what seats my grandfather/great grandfather had in the Milburn Stand pre- war ;-) Actually it was quite a nice story my uncle told me last week, about how my grandfather's soon to become father-in-law managed to get my grandfather the season ticket for the seat next to him when his friend decided not to renew his. It was obviously a huge seal of approval on the relationship, and it seemed liked season tickets were gold dust even in those days (mid 30's)....ooops there I go again. Sorry. Tedious anecdote over.

I've got German/Polish immigrants in my side of the family too, Dan. Don't think they were jewish though, since he was a pork butcher in Westgate Road ;-). Came from the Svine estuary, wherever that is..

Windy
He had to be a pork butcher, coming from Svine. :-)) Sorry.
