Goma for 4.5 mill

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Chelsea is said to have offered 4.5 mill for Goma. Barcelona, West Ham, Fulham and others is interessted.......

If he has to go then I would say 6-8 mill.

What do you think of this ??

See the "Goma to Chelsea" thread.

The thing is, of these clubs, only Barca is is any bigger. I;d say he was worth at least 8 mills.

4.5m is about right. He doesn't want to be here (although is supposed to be making different noises recently), and gives variable performances.

Prefer him to stay to the end of the season given our defensive cover (Hughes, Caldwell, Marcelino, Dabs)

Come on, give the lad a break. You've got to hand it to him - he's said he wants to knuckle down and cast all the ill-feeling behind him.

Chelsea need a replacement for Le Poof Barcelon presumably can't sign him until the season ends West Ham have a bucket-load of cash left after selling Rio F Fulham have Alf I Ed's millions

If any of those want him, then they should be made to pay an asking price of £6M. We'd clearly need a replacement - Marcelino will be lynched before he plays for us again and I think I agree with the comments elsewhere about Dabs - and that's not Goma come cheap. So, keep him uniti we either get a very silly offer or have a replacement lined up.

Makes good sense, Screacher.

Goma is our best centre half, but to be honest I still don't think he's really good enough. As someone on this or the other thread has said, he has too many lapses of concentration.

The real point is though that to get anyone better will cost us a lot more than £4.5mm. For instance, Ehiogu is only a little better, and he cost Boro £8mm. So, my conclusion is that we should not sell him for £4.5mm, in fact I definitely wouldn't take a penny less than £6mm, and believe his market value is actually around £7mm.

My big concern in all this is that we're likely to sell Goma and Marcia for not more than about £6mm in total, and will replace them with these Faber/Paz blerks who will provide no overall improvement whatsoever.
I'm with Screach, I'd keep Goma until we i) get a decent market price for him, and ii) find someone who will actually improve our defensive capability, and not just take us sideways (or even backwards) again.

Just been reading the EU Transfer thingy thread .... this transfer fee discussion could now have become a load of b@ll@x.

Presumably, Goma will be free to walk, or will he? Or if they leave when still under contract is 'compensation', as detmined by the Compensation Committee payable? Who will sit on this Committee, and what criteria will they use to decide what is 'appropriate' compensation?

It sounds like a dog's breakfast to me, but entirely typical of anything the EU stick their bureaucratic knebs into.

Short term , why did we not go for Hendry for £500,00 ,at least he plays and tackles full frontal , Bolton`s gain

Buff - IMHO, we missed the boat with Hendry a while ago. He's getting on a bit now and I think he's probably too slow for the EPL. Mind, he's got more experience than anything we have or are linked with, so maybe not a bad deal - espesh if he could pass on a few experiences to the bairns (OK, those below 25).

No - on reflection (in this bottle of wine), I'm with Clarky who's with me. Goma's a professional and I believe he will honour his contract as long as we want him. Keep Goma and get shot of Farcelino as soon as we can. Sadly, we will lose out on the £10M Gullit (spit) paid for them both. Oooh - Aah wish Denis Wise would scratch eez bliddy eyes oot!

Hendry would have been a great signing for us when he left Rangers Buff, never mind just recently. He would also have been an excellent mentor for Hughes and Caldwell, who have had to try to learn their trade while playing alongside the likes of Dabz, and Marcelino.

Goma is as good a CH as we've had since Jeff Clarke. We shouldn't sell him (or let him go if transfers regs come in) both he & Hughes along with Griff & An Other will make a good back four. Acuna, Dyer & solano make up the core of the Midfield & Perm two of our strikers. Fill in the gaps with quality & we have a decent team. There is no need to talk of pastit Scots, gamble on kids or anyone else we've never heard of.
