Re: [OT] You Guys and Gals are FAMOUS

Kinda reminds me of the famous line from the movie Cool Hand Luke, where the prison warden says to Paul Newman, "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

The real irony, to me anyway, is that Salon magazine is based in San Francisco. You would think that the author and the publisher had never heard of the energy crisis in their own state. You would think that she and her publisher had never heard that the price of oil and gas doubled in the months after the rollover, or that a significant fraction (what is it -- a third?) of California's generating plants are off-line at any given point. You would think that neither she nor her publisher saw that long, detailed posting from Dr. Paula Gordon on Mountain Mike's thread that she referred to in the article...

"Problems? What problems? We ain't got no steenking problems..."

NOTE THAT FOR SOMEONE .......OUT OF Y2k he jumps right in with the latest and a personal tribute to THE PAULA.

-- Anonymous, February 13, 2001

What I want to know is, when does Paula's battery run out? It must be better than an Energizer! She keeps GOING ... and GOING ... and GOING ...

(And I even hear the pounding noises in my head!)

I review that forum as often as any other, and there was another thread of late that included Cory's latest weather report. The content was similar. The "prepping" continues. I've got to believe that none of this was ever about Y2k.

Anita:

The site or community [your choice] is much more complicated than that. Most of the original people are gone. Many of the oldest people have been purged as part of a jihad. It is interesting to watch.

Who would have "thunk" that Zog would be the most rational person there. Go figure.

It would take too long to describe its evoluton. There are still some worthwhile people there. Just not the ones that have been cited, in most cases.

Best Wishes,,,

Z

Some of us maintained from 1998, that the whole of y2k was little more than another effort by assorted Fringers to "recruit". Now, its clear that is still going on. The trash left on EZ...is the rejects of NORMAL SOCIETY. To give them any credit more than that, is to promote them. Yourdon belongs there.

EXCUSE ME.......I forgot, its "Mr. Yourdon" over there and "Dr. North" and "Dr. Gordon".

The first thing that we (several people still on this board) ever noticed about CPSR and Cynthia grocer/farmer/instant Y2k expert and the rest was that "they all seemed to know each other and even Gary North".

It was like a club of people joined by some past experiences. They "knew the rap".

They had all the answers.

And they had all the questions to toss back

They also had all the rhetoric to puff up the "heroes" (North and Yourdon and the assorted experts) and

they had all the "lines" to tear down those who contested.

remember "how many books on software systems have you written, Maria? " when she explained to them that the Phone Systems she had worked on would be ok.

The "how many books" seemed like a score vs. Maria but was simply a canned response. She should have fired back, "how many did he write on Phone systems?".

it was ALL......a "REPEAT".

from "the cold war" to "hyperinflation" to "the Japanese threat" to "the Energy crisis and running out of oil" to NORTH's INSANE "AIDS" Crisis (10 foot high piles of dead bodies with no one to bury them.......

get out of the cities now!!!

The strange part is that EY now doesn't even bother to disguise his Doomzie mode with Y2k as the "cause". Its just the world is inferior because......its not a Yourdon designed and run to Yourdon Standards world.

Z,

While the committee understands you hold potential as a worshipper, they are troubled by your seemingly independent jibber on this thread. They are troubled at your lack of faith in the Godlike one.

Course they fully understand you do not possess full "suck-up" credentials at present, they do think it would be at least 'playing along in good faith' if ya didn't forget DOC has probaly already:: (Who would have "thunk" that Zog would be the most rational person there. Go figure.) covered your worries and provided relief for what ails your soul. This is what makes him GodLike, no?

In defense of Zog

Your application is still open and we have decided not to hold this little detour against you :)

I definitely think you're correct, Charlie. I remember well Cory being an ICON in the whole thing, while others working on mainframes had to fight an uphill battle to dispute his claims. I'm simply amazed that he REMAINS an ICON and claims to this day he was correct in his predictions. I never really got "into" the Cynthia Beal thing, and I never gave Yourdon a second thought. Cory was my "target", because we shared a common background, or so I thought.

Z: Zog [as Doc pointed out several years ago] has ALWAYS been a survivalist type. At the time that Y2k was in full-steam, Zog was just singing the same song he'd always sung, and one can easily forgive someone who isn't an opportunist. The startling news [perhaps only to me] is that Yourdon, Cory, and some others seem to have been singing the same song for years as well, but the song was never heard until Y2k. That the song continues to be sung and incorporated is more interesting [to me]. Stephen already expressed my feelings when he mentioned the energizer Bunny. It matters not what life beholds, the energizer Bunny just keeps going and going.

Doc:

It seems that we posted at the same time, but I'm grateful that you've pointed Z to the information I remember you posting some years ago. At this point, however, I have to wonder how many of the folks involved were NOT survivalist-types. It's over. It's done. Yet, Cory still engages in the survivalist mentality, and many on Yourdon's forum [I haven't checked out that other guy's forum in a LONG while. In fact I even forgot his name] still adhere to a "dream" of societal collapse and prepare for it.

Cory was my "target", because we shared a common background, or so I thought.

No, Anita. Remember:

1. Men are from Mars.

2. Women are from Venus.

3. Cory is from Pluto (right after the yard sale.)

:)

Please forgive what I'm sure some of you will regard as my disconnectedness here, BUT --

WHO actually pays any *attention* to those poor deluded souls any more?

WHY are they worthy of any type of detailed comment/analysis?

Rational minds (1) want to know, or better yet (2) just don't care.

Time is precious. Why waste it on lost causes.....

Hey watch it Chicken...It is still barely 12:30Am here on the LeftCoast(plus I work second shift). For Anita it is, well past her bedtime. For you and Poole on the rightcoast, well what is your excuse? Hey we are all wacked,(me not as much as you) deal with it- embrace it-and dammit people love us.

Michael Hyatt. [Is there a slowest memory award?]

OK, well, it's confession time. I am (quite possibly) at least partially responsible for egging Cynthia Beal on.

(I'll wait while the magnitude of my transgression sets in.....)

It was 1997 and the CPSR Y2K mail list was sensible (no, really, it WAS). (I mean, even Dave Hall made sense at the time.) (HEY. I SAID it was 1997.) Along comes (what we all thought was) this bright, energetic woman with some pretty damn good ideas.

Oh, how foolish we were.

I could apologize from now until eternity and it still wouldn't help :-)

another hilarious thread from the Funny Farm aka; GICC. TRULY...THE QUEEN AND THE MAD HATTER WITHOUT THE LOOKING GLASS.

Just remember, after Spring, 1999, Cynthia and this one along with the Toas Toasty Club of Ed and GN /Hyatt/others WERE....."the y2k problem". Any pretense they were trying to "help" is absurd. We knew it then and SALON showed it is continuing. A CONSTIPATED MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WATCH.

Re my message in my interview, I've been thinking about this for 24 hours, hard. And it's coming down to this synthesis:

We all have beliefs. And it's human nature for resist (and resent) what threatens our beliefs. As a result, we unconsciously put blinders on. Folks not "getting" the impact Y2K could have (had) have blinders on, imo, interfering with their getting this. Ongoing Y2K impact aside, the even bigger question for me is: Where (else) does our culture have blinders on? Where do I have blinders on? What am I/we not seeing, that I/we need to be looking at?

That's the even bigger lesson/message for me, from Y2K.

Where (else) does our culture have blinders on? Where do I have blinders on? What am I/we not seeing, that I/we need to be looking at?

That's a big one. Let's start here.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, I repeat:

WHO CARES?

-- Anonymous, February 15, 2001

Chicken:

Three-legged ducks are an oddity. It's not every day that one sees a pregnant dwarf, but I turned my head and looked the day my daughter pointed it out. We even spent some time discussing the phenomenon. We didn't DWELL on it. It was CASUAL conversation.

YOU don't care about THESE observations, and I feel quite the same way when I see your opinions regarding abortion. "Who cares what these weirdos think, indeed."
