In one of several looming turf battles, Richard Cheney, the Vice-President, already firmly established as President Bush’s most influential adviser, is seeking to tighten his grip on national security policy at the expense of Condoleezza Rice, the National Security Adviser, according to Newsweek magazine.

Mr Cheney is swiftly emerging in a prime ministerial role, as the former Defence Secretary has accrued more clout than any Vice-President of recent times. In his latest move, Mr Cheney is making an attempt to chair the so-called “principals committee”, where Cabinet-level secretaries hammer out foreign policy and defence options for the President.

Such meetings are usually chaired by the National Security Adviser, but Mr Bush has signalled that Ms Rice will take a lower profile than previous occupants of that post.

Rice was hired to sedate the black voters, nothing else. Dumbya figures she will be a good monkey for media photos, like the pictures of a chimpanzee at the zoo.

Regardless of the reason, I can't imagine she'll sit still for very long. She's a bright person who seems motivated and ambitious. If she has been marginalized to this degree I'm certain she'll find a place where she's valued.

Condoleezza Rice is a genuine ‘super star’ in her field of foreign affairs, with an unparalleled knowledge base and insight into the ‘Mother Land’. Unlike the ‘camera pimps’ of the Clinton years, Ms. Rice will do her good work without the liberal preening that would make any scholar puke. She is just one of many very smart and qualified people that surround GWB.

Barry, of course, merits deference in this matter, for he is a fully-qualified participant here at Unk's Wild West. He passed the entrance exam - which is to find your ass with both hands in the dark without a flashlight. Ain't passed the exam, too, but it took several tries.

I've no doubt Rice is very intelligent and qualified, but that isn't why Dumbya took her in. He put her on board because he wants to present an image that he respects intelligent blacks. Everyone knows Cheney is going to make all the calls on National Security and Defense issues, using Powell's expertise but taking the credit for himself. In case Cheney has another Big Mac attack, Powell is there to tell Dumbya what to do. The fact that he is also black is just considered another bonus for the bullshit front that Dumbya is feeding the media.
