First the main character was going through some old books when he heard a tapping noise at his door. He was very depressed since his love, Lenore had just died. The tapping continued and he just thought of it to be a vistitor and nothing more than that. When he opened the door he found only darkness and nothing else. He cried out, "Lenore!" but there was no answer. There was another noise but this time he thought it to be the wind. The raven comes in and says his name is, Nevermore. He asked the bird a few questions but the bird only answers, Nevermore. The man gets angry and throws a cusion at the bird. The bird dodges it and the whole thing happens again. The bird never leaves and at the end of the story he quotes, "nevermore".

The significance of this poem is quite simple, once analized. Poe tries to convey an ever-present torment (the Raven) that he has over a lost love. His true burden (in reality) comes not from a literal bird, but rather from a great sorrow from which his spirits shall never rise. The Raven was chosen as a conveyer of this message, a harbinger of melancholia, because of its appearance and great nobility as a bird. The black, winged demon sent to torment one so lost in his own abyss of sadness, and to forever remain with him, patiently keeping with him for all of his days. He could do nothing to escape the sadness, for he became its victim--eternally. I hope that this has offered some sort of assistance to you. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. What a fucking dick... If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. P A Regan. Like he's some big hot shot. I'm not going to say that I am, coz I'm not. Which is my point.

Hey, chevyscooby@yahoo.com stfu! He's trying to offer as much help as he can, which is by giving out an email address so the person can contact him or someone else with a furthe knowledge of the poem, because to some people his answer to the question might be slightly ambiguous. It took me a second time reading over to understand what he was trying to say, so take your head outa your ass!
